A Valentines Wish - for the safe return of a pet dog

As many of us look forward to sharing time with our loved ones this Valentines Day, spare a thought for those who this year will only shed a tear as they come to terms with the loss of their pet dog, lost due to a seven day 'amnesty' across Merseyside.

Valentines Day, February the 14th is the first day following a seven day dog ‘hand-in’ chaotic nightmare for many.

A time for remembering a trusted pet dog who is no longer around, or thoughts of a family member languishing away in a lonely kennel somewhere unknown, awaiting his fate.

Old dogs, puppies, children's best friends-none were spared and all were condemned, not for actually being of any danger to anyone - but for being the wrong shape and size.

Some owners have reached heart-rendering decisions - having taken their own dogs to be put to sleep; so that they could spend a last few moments together and not suffer being taken away in front of the children that loved them, or die with unknown persons in a strange place.

A dog’s story this Valentines Day:
“I woke up this morning and had my usual walk around the park, meeting my doggie friends, little Sarah and Jason went off to school on time after we had a game in the garden with the ball.
It's Valentines Day today and my mum and dad have been hiding presents and cards - like they normally do; but I’ve sniffed the chocolates out already. I might get a little something too!
Wait, what's that white van pulled up outside, I can see a cage in the back, there are dogs looking out and crying, what's going on mum? Who are those people - coming for me?
I don't want to get in the van, why's that man got a wire noose, wait, please I've been good I promise, my neck hurts, please I’m frightened, Mums crying and screaming, help us someone......”

Please light a candle this Valentines Day to remember those who have lost their innocent dogs and for those who are trying to save their best friend.
