Rescue Dog News

Tango - an older dog who found love in the end:

EDDR received a call from a rescue worker who was desperately looking for help due to the high number of Staffords and Stafford crosses homeless at a dog pound and without much hope of finding a rescue placement as every rescue is full.

The kennels had filled up and to this day the numbers of staffie crosses is critically high, with so many younger healthy dogs all looking for homes, the chances of finding help for a little old girl did not look at all promising, she was approx. 14 years of age, quiet and given up on life in her kennel, unwanted and in poor health, but rescues came together and Cindy at the Oldies Club, a organisation which helps and supports the older dogs, stepped in and saved her, named 'Tango', here is an update on her progress:

Cindy writes:

Tango as we named her due to the orange dye all over her belly, neck and parts of her face, has actually never got any further than me or should I say us. I fell in love the day she arrived at the foster home and hubby fell in love and Snatch our staffy boy was totally smitten and now adores her and dotes on her (especially when he is scared or anxious).

Tango has come on great, unfortunately 21 teeth had to be removed and she did fight with a throat and lunge infection for near enough 2 months.

She had total muscle waste in her back legs and could hardly walk 200 yards down the road.

Well today Tango is a different dog, all her infections are gone and apart from a too slow heart (she faints when she gets over excited, not a lot we can do, had a ecg done) she is becoming the firm favourite of my dog walker. She now goes out with the gang every lunch time for around 25 minutes (off lead). She is deaf as a stone but follows snatch everywhere and will stop every 5 yards to see if you are still with you. She has successfully learned signs for ‘Come’, ‘good girl’ and ‘no’. She has cataracts and I am trying to teach snatch as her guide dog for when it gets worse, but he is a bit of a ‘Nice Tim but Dim’ bless him.

I hope you enjoyed hearing how well she is doing. I wanted to thank you as without you she would have never found her way to us and although she is a right cheeky little madam, who hates dogs bigger than her and will start a fight, who snores louder than hubby and snatch together, we wouldn’t want to be without her anymore.

All the best
