Star Letter

A view shared by many from EDDR member Bob Watts, Bob, who is 72 years of age returned his four medals which included his African Star and Burma Star to Buckingham Palace, with a letter requesting the immediate release of death row dogs such as Judd and Lacey..

Distributed to all Conservative M.P’s prior to the General Election.

The Government have recently decided to allow a limited amendment to the Act, obviously in the hope that it will appease the public before the election. It is an insult to the intelligence of the people in this country to think that after five years of extreme cruelty this Act has caused, it can be erased from the minds of so many, particularly dog owners, families and many others who have suffered so much.

Does the Home Secretary really believe that he can persuade the electorate to forget the years of misery and cruelty to vote Tory? He has yet to learn so late in life that the people in this country do not forget and they will vote accordingly.
In the event of no action being taken to free ALL the dogs held by the Police and steps taken to scrap the Act, before the dissolution of Parliament for the election, a campaign under the heading “NOT FIT TO GOVERN”, which has been planned for sometime now, will take place. It will cover marginal constituencies and one other - That will be Folkestone and Hythe. The reason for this does not need explanation. It is to be expected.
Remember, “AS YE SOW - SO SHALL YE REAP”.

There are over six million dogs in this country. This means that quite a lot of people are involved in the “Dog World”, do you really think that they wish to keep a government in power with your record ? Not to mention the abuse of HUMAN RIGHTS. I think not. The support for action to free the dogs held, some for as long as four years is now coming from so many areas of the country. When you think of the number of innocent dogs slaughtered it is hardly surprising.

The Prime Minister in his efforts to convince the people the Tories are the “Party of the Nation” used phrases such as “kindly Conservatives”. “Come and talk to us, we will listen.” He talks about family values, etc, and how important it is for the government to take notice of what people say. It is unbelievable that he isn’t aware of what has been happening in this country for over five years. If as expected he does know, the question must be asked “why hasn’t he stepped in and done something about the cruelty and misery this Act has inflicted upon the public”?

His words regarding the care for people and their way of life fall on stoney ground. When people talk about the DDA the Prime Minister is castigated for not stepping in and using his authority to stop this cruelty.

It is known that Tory MPs are very concerned about the DDA. Many realise that their seats will be lost election time. One MP remarked some time ago that the DDA was a “time bomb” ticking away under the Tory Party. He has certainly been proved correct!

Some months ago Lord Justice Staughton in the latest of so many attacks on the government said. “Ignoring the rules of natural justice set a course for the slippery slope of dictatorship”. Think about it. This was said in regard to the DDA.

Now is the time to speak out for ALL dogs. Seven have died in custody. Remember this cruelty has been going on for five years. Amending the Act in a limited way will not affect the resolve of the public. It has got to go. The protest is now bigger than ever, and will continue.

The support for the abolition of the DDA is now nation wide. It could be that it will have a crucial role to play on election day.

With respect, for the last five years MP’s have done NOTHING about the DDA. Obviously hoping that someone would “wave a magic wand” and it would go away!

The public at large are asking questions, such as “Why have you done nothing about the slaughter of over ONE THOUSAND PETS?
