World Animal Day is on the 4th october 2010 - At least 80 countries got involved in 2009 and the number of events more than doubled! You can help ensure that World Animal Day 2010 is the biggest and best yet! BE PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL - GET INVOLVED AND SHOW THE ANIMALS YOU CARE. Details here.

National Poop Scoop Week - Runs from the 26th July – 1st August 2010, the Dogs Trust is teaming up with local authorities-find out about local events from the Dogs Trust of through your own council & please remember to always pick up after your dog.

Not Guilty! Vigil - A vigil for all victims of BSL is being held on 24th July in Westminster-London (UK). During the vigil your letters will be hand delivered by a delegation to the Prime Minister at No.10 Downing Street. Details here

National Microchipping Month is June 2010.
A campaign that encourages and promotes responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the preferred method of permanent pet identification. Further details here

Oxon - As part of national microchipping month, get your dog mircochipped for only £5 at the Burford Blue Cross adoption centre.

The Hearing Dogs! Annual Summer Fair takes place on Sunday 6th June 2010 Fun activities for all the family including hearing dog demonstrations, scruffts heat & fun dog show, flyball tournament, fairground rides and much more. Details here.

Bullies In Need - North East Walk takes place on Saturday 12th June at 7.30pm-9.30pm. Meeting at Mardsden Grotto car park, Marsden, South Shileds NE34 7BS (dogs must be on leash).

 

April-May 2010:

National Pet Month - Runs from the 3rd April to 3rd May 2010. Lots of countrywide events in support of responsible dog ownership. Details here

Association of Dogs & Cats Homes - The ADCH 2010 conference will be held on the 21st & 22nd April 2010 at the Hotel de France, Jersey. Full details of the conference will be available on their web site

Anti puppy farming protest - Members of anti puppy farming group Puppy Love will take their campaign to Wales on 1st of April.
Members and supporters will gather outside Carmarthenshire Council Offices 3 Spilman Street, Carmarthen, SA31 1LE at 12 noon. The peaceful protest is mainly the idea of Welsh members of Puppy Love who want to make their feelings known. Details here

Not Guilty Vigil News - the DDA Watch BSL Vigil was held in Westminster on the 24th July and has been a great success, thank you for your support. 28th July

Public Consultation Launched - 'dangerous dogs' are back in the news this week as Defra announces today the launch of a public consultation on its proposals. 9th March

Time to Wake Up Defra - to repeated calls to repeal the unworkable, highly expensive Dangerous Dogs Act and end BSL. A Vote for REPEAL this general election is a vote for public safety and animal welfare. Feb. '10

Bateson Inquiry Report and Dangerous Dogs - Calls for Changes to breed ban law and responses to it. Feb. '10

The Bateson Report - After a ten month long inquiry into dog breeding, Professor Sir Patrick Bateson FRS called for a non-statutory Advisory Council on Dog Breeding, changes in the law including a requirement for all puppies to be micro-chipped prior to sale, and an up-graded Accredited Breeder Scheme. Animal Welfare Codes - DEFRA have published new animal welfare codes which provide owners and keepers with information on how to meet the welfare needs of their animals, as required under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. December '09

Lest We Forget: This time of year eighteen years ago, there was just four weeks left to comply and mass confusion over the wording and application of a law ordinary pet owners mainly did not understand and still don't today. Summer & Hot Weather Guide - Every year dogs tragically die in hot vehicles or end up in the vets with sun burn or heat stroke. Some dogs need special consideration in warmer weather and all dogs need to stay cool. Advice for dog owners this Summer.

Released Dogs - this help sheet is for pet dogs which have been returned home having been held by the authorities whilst pending further investigation, breed identification and/or legal proceedings under the Dangerous Dogs Act, either section 1 or section 3 – which is applicable to all dogs. Registered & Exempted Dogs - Sixty six dogs exempted under the Dangerous Dogs Act in last 3 years are no longer on the register according to figures released in reply to FOI requests. Advice and help for pet owners available. May '09

Italy to REPEAL BSL - Italy moves to scrap dangerous dogs list and introduce new dog law placing responsibility with the owner, not the breed of dog. May '09

Greyhound Awareness Week - Gives an opportunity for all those concerned about the plight of greyhounds to educate the public about the mass slaughter of dogs caused by the greyhound racing industry. May '09

Stray Dogs - No longer responsibility of the Police - Commencement of Section 68 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 means that the Police no longer have responsibility for stray dogs; this change in the law came into force on Monday 7th April 2008
