I wish someone would listen to what the BVA head vet has said about the dog law, well done for finding this and reporting on it, I never saw it anywhere else. Good luck in your work helpling innocent dogs.

Remember, remember the fifth of november, well we would rather forget it thanks all the same. Hate fireworks, every time my dogs go nuts for a week and end up on tablets from the vets, it is a nightmare for us, liked your firework guide, shall be reading to see if it might help my two.

Our dog was seized last year, we went to court by way of section 3 of the dangerous dog laws and our dog was returned to us three and a half months later, we do really feel for this family and what they have been put through with the death of their pet, it is up to the law court to decide surely, not anyone else. A most upsetting ordeal which has resulted in the totally needless death of a dog. (In reference to 'Sam' the sbt)

I was so upset to read about the Stafford 'Sam' and him being euthanised when he shouldn't have been, such a tragic loss of life. My full sympathies to his family, they must be devastated with this outcome.

I read the article about the law changing in Northern ireland and hope that this can in some way help free Bruce, if not, then other poor dogs like him, well done to those who must have, I'm sure, have worked enormously hard in their own time to find out this information and share it with the wider world. What a discovery-dog law has changed and no one knew for sure, quite amazing, well done all!

Our bull terrier 'Lucy' had a run in with another dog which was off lead (she was on her lead) and we were so worried when the police questioned us, it is hard to explain how devastated we are, we now avoid the park as it brings back bad memories, thanks to eddr for helping us out and listening when we couldn't think right. I was disgusted to see on TV dogs being seized off bad owners as 'pit bull' whatever the hell that is, puppies taken away, tiny little things, to be killed and they put this on telly like it is something to be proud of? What nonsense is this - London you should be ashamed to be letting these poor little pups and adults just get killed regardless to any temperament, what a upright modern city London has become and we look at other countries and talk about animals being treated badly, yet here we are killing dogs on tv as they look wrong it has made us feel quite sick.

Our local rescue is full of unwanted staffords and bulldog breeds, it is heart breaking to see each week, I volunteer and walk several dogs, every kennel is almost full now with staffs no one wants, where are they all coming from? There is a huge waiting list of staffords to come in but no room, so they will all be destroyed at some point, sickening situation, what has happened in this country.

I think that the public who buy puppies from these shops and puppy supermarket places all over the internet want to think about who produced that puppy - its mum and dad stuck somehwere in some breeding factory, the money you hand over has gone towards keeping them locked away in some hole-thanks to your support.
from Lisa & Gemma an ex factory breeding Westie

Puppy farming and back yard breeding is all about supply and demand, cut out the demand the the supply will dry up. People who buy a pup because they just want one 'now' or on a whim - 'puppy looks cute' are keeping this vile trade going with their money.

BAN ALL PUPPY FARMS and puppy dog dealers. Don't buy a puppy from these dealers. Get a rescue dog instead! There's plenty of them, the dog kennels round here are full of dogs that need homes.

What does it take to get action on these puppy farm places and close them down, what a disgrace and going on in our own country, these people are only interested in making money out of dogs misery, puppy supermarkets should all be shut down, it's been going on for years, the more people that know about it the better.

The cruelty involved with the production of dog fur for westerners made me sick, I watched some news on this and had nightmares for months as it was is so barbaric and it's not just dogs and cats who are skinned alive, other animals are butchered, beaten and tortured as well. I pray that one day the cruelty will end and animals will be treated with respect, they feel pain for god sake what is wrong with people.

We haven’t supported nor made any donations to the RSPCA since their support for the dangerous dogs law from when it first came in (at this time we had a registered dog and wrote many letters to our MP) we do hope they are sincere in their wish to end breed bans law we have, we could at least then move on from this terrible episode that has seen so many pets snatched from their houses and killed. We always think of the children who has witnessed their dogs being dragged from their beds and taken away on the wire nooses round their necks, never to be seen again-how would you explain this to a child who questions for his best friend who used to sleep in the bed, we know because this situation actually happened down our neighbourhood, the dog never done anything at all, he was taken to a police kennels and he died later on. Our registered old girl lived a good few years and passed away peacefully eight years ago, she was a friend to many especially our daughter.

This is good news for a change, we don't get much do we after 18 years of DDA in the UK, well done to everyone involved, I know how hard it is for you all behind the scenes. Happy New Year to all at eddr. Our Shepherd cross Collie Brodie was in kennels this time last year, he had a fight in the green and a hand was bitten during the ordeal when lots of teeth and bits were flying about, it ended up in court under the dogs law and we can’t put into words what we felt the day he was taken from us. Without your help in preparation for our case via our solicitor we would never have seen Brodie again. He is a good boy around other dogs, just this one off time when it didn’t go so well, but not his fault we think anyway, the judge understood this and saw how well cared for he is, Brodie stays on a lead all the time now but he still has a big garden to run in and he does of course have the rest of his life to live thanks to endangered dogs team helping us through it all.

The DDA is such a mental law, dogs get taken and them idiots don’t give a s**t, everyone knows they just get something else and breed it, just the decent people ending up in court and they want them pets back. What’s the point and why do the dogs all get killed anyway-owned by idiot then killed at the end of it. In the seventies it was alasations, the eighties had a run on rotweilers, now pit bulls or dogs just with a bit of muscle-don’t know what it is, call it a pit bull, everyone is an expert all of a sudden, even courses you can go on and make yourself an expert, it’s the deed not breed - well no say sherlock, how many years has it taken for your to figure that one out. The law was passed in 1991, where were all these groups then eh, nowhere to be seen when all the killing was going on, if they had a dna test to single out pit bulls they would be using it and no on would be moaning, if it’s a pit bull you can kill it and no one will moan about it. Imagine hundreds of cute fluffy dogs on death row, everyone would be screaming murder, but if it’s a pit no one cares as they can’t feel anything can they. Attitudes really suck and i'm really sick of reading the news rubbish on dogs. Any idiot can own and breed dogs, that's where the problem is.

Your web site asked for letters to go to the local politician and the department of defra, we sent the guideline one relating to the conditions and welfare of any dog taken and locked away in custody of the authority. We are hoping on a rely from our politician soon, we received a letter back from the defra, very much saying what you have put on the web site. The defra state that If anyone thinks the conditions in a kennels is not good enough, which you would if the dog in the flat upstairs came back s thin you could count the ribs and sick too, then report the kennels to the council as they give out the licenses for the kennels. Great idea deframan, just one little problem there- no one bloody knows where the kennels is that the dog came out off do they, it’s all secret information so how we suppose to know who to make this complaint to, which council it will be? The dogs protection get a call but no one ever ring back or come to see the dog, so the owner he might as well just forget it, we tried to help, gave the owner your numbers, he not with computer but will ring all about his dog, as we said you only ones to help him. The person who never feed his dog proper should get the sacking from kennel place as a bit of food surely not to much to expect for the poor dog.

South Korea Legislation Amendment - Dogs to be reclassified as livestock
There has been a lot of activity recently about the city of Seoul’s proposal to reclassify dogs as “livestock”, thereby legitimising their slaughter as “meat animals”, despite the fact that South Korea currently outlaws the sale of dog meat.
Animals Asia has received pleas from many of our supporters and requests from the Korea Animal Protection Society (KAPS) and other animal welfare groups to lend our support to those in Korea working to prevent this.
Animals Asia fully endorses their activities and protests against this legislation, which would set back by years, the progress of all animal welfare groups in Asia working to take companion animals out of the food chain.
With this in mind, we have recently sent two separate letters in support of KAPS to the Mayor of Seoul and to the President of South Korea, strongly protesting this huge backward step and stressing its potential damage to the welfare of companion animals across Asia.
Attached is a copy of a animal network posting about dog eating in Korea and the text of one of our letters – if you would like to support KAPS in this campaign please copy and forward it to:

Well Done helping Bob the dog, we read about him on a forum, he looks lovely and deserves to go home to his family. The law really needs changing to protect dogs, it's bad owners who are the problem, not dogs, why do normal people have to suffer like that.

Thanks to everyone at Endangered Dogs for all your advice and support in helping us to find our American Bull Dog Lex his forever home.
We love Lex very much. He was a big softie in nearly every way, but unfortunately despite all our best efforts he would not get along with our first dog. Even though it was the right thing to do, deciding to re-home Lex and having to go through the process of finding him a new home was the most difficult thing we have ever done.
However it was all worth it in the end. Lex has has found a wonderful new home. He has been there are few months now and has settled in really well. His new owners adore him as much as we do and he is happy as an only child :)

If you’re a dog owner living in the UK the Dangerous Dogs Act applies to you in some way or another.
In 1991 the act was brought into force by the then home secretary Kenneth Baker. He wanted to protect the public from dangerous dogs and so added a piece of legislation which outlawed certain types of dogs.
This law has failed.
It has failed miserably. Dog attacks are stated as having risen, deaths of people and young children have not been avoided or reduced.
The public have not been protected and many dogs have died as a result of this slipshod law. Many dogs who were not, ever, dangerous. Dogs who simply happened to look a certain way.
This has happened under section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act, the section which legislates against breed types. It has a name of its own, it is called breed specific legislation or BSL.
The Pet Owners Parliament supports its members in writing to their local MP in order to seek their views and opinion on why section 1 of the DDA is still in force and showing no signs of being repealed or revised.
As a result of section 1, many, many innocent dogs can and will lose their lives for no other reason that what they happen to physically look like.
Please download our letter template, fill in the name and address of your local MP and send the letter to them direct.
It may also be possible to email your MP and save money on the postage, in which case please edit the letter appropriately and paste its content into an email.

I am horrified to have seen the press release about Kodee.
I have two staffs a male and female and live in northwest london my male is all white with patches but is constantly being accused of being a pitbull,I am harassed all the time by both public and police even on new years eve a police car screeched up beside me all ready to have a go. I am a 47 yr old woman i am forced to walk 3 miles to a large park to exercise them they are muzzled in the park even though they don't need it and then 3 miles home to take them to the local park would be traumatic for them and me.My male is deaf and blind in one eye and makes no trouble but you would think he was a serial killer the way people cross the road or swear at me when we go past.If there's anything ican do to help at all please let me know and good luck in all you do I for one certainly wish I could help .

She was only protecting herself from another dog but its owner decided to try and separate them, there was no damage done just his pride dented but he insisted on reporting to the police instead of speaking directly to us. When we got her 6 years ago she had been under fed, beaten and not socialised, we have spent a lot of time getting her right and her only fault is if she is picked on by another dog she retaliates. We have another Airedale which we rescued 2 years ago and they are great friends.

WE have had our Stafford for eight years and she is a terrific gentle dog, i am fed up with reading the rubbish written by some newspapers about certain breeds, dogs are largely what their owners make them, bring up a puppy well and train and socialise it and you will have a good dog.

've been trying to get my Stafford into a rescue now for three weeks, he is a lovely dog but due to ill health I can no longer care for him. It has been a struggle, everywhere is booked and we are on four waiting lists all several months long. I never realised how awful the situation had become for rescue dogs. For us, we just keep trying, we will try to rehome privately but are worried about this and wanted the support of a rescue for him. Thank you for all your advice and support, it has kept us going. I think all breeding should be stopped until the rescue crisis can get sorted out some how, something must be done.

If the Index for registered dogs was open, then anyone with a dog which may be covered, would be able to get their dog registered, if they wanted to, that would be a lot better than killing the dog. Why open it in 1991 for a few months and then shut it again? You have to go to Court to have a chance to get your dog registered in order to save it. What a waste of Court and Police time.

Thank you for providing so much information on your web site, it is good to see all the statements and comments from everyone who is opposed to the dog amnesty and taking of healthy family pets. When will Governments take action against the people who train their dogs to be dangerous and use them as a weapon or tool for their own illegal uses. Instead they just ban types of dogs as it's an easy option, too gutless to get tough and really protect kids. The amnesty is simply a PR exercise.

We wanted to thank you for your advice earlier this year with our staffie cross Benson, Benson had a very poor start in life, owned by someone who wanted a dog for all the wrong reasons, he came to us with several problems, but with your help we have built a strong bond together and Benson no longer trashes our home when he is left alone, he is also now officially 'toilet trained' and enjoying the company of everyone he meets-he just thinks every new person is great, we have even overcome our fear of riding in a car. We own two pit bull terriers and they are both loving members of our family, when will people see that dogs are what we make them, banning a breed only punishes the good owners as they are the ones who register their dogs and abide by the law, the bad owners just go off and own another type of dog, causing a load of problems with the next breed, depending what the latest fashion is. Laws need to address the bad owners out there or we will just keep getting nowhere and no one is protected in the end.

My name is Karen, and I was wondering if the dangerous dogs act is to be amended. I completely agree with everything that you have wrote about how the breed shouldn't be punished for one dogs act of aggression.
How do humans have the right to distinguish what lives and dies. They aren't God, and extinction of a breed to suit bureaucrats is extremely wrong. I agree that there should be ways that stop dangerous owners owning these dogs, but it should be the owner that is punished, and not the dog, and certainly not the whole breed, some of whom have done absolutely nothing wrong. I am an animal lover, and I believe that animals like children, should be brought up with love, care and respect, in turn the dogs will grow into adulthood with the same values, regardless of breed. They are basically discriminating against the breeds, and yet they say that humans are caring beings. There is more stories in the news about humans doing horrific acts against each other, and yet they couldn't discriminate against the whole human race. There is more cases of child molestation, abduction, rape, murder. Do they sterilize those individuals, let alone discriminate against people of that gender, sex, race etc. There would be a complete uproar. Not even the people who do these heinous acts get what they deserve - they get a few years in jail and then anonimity to protect them, and help them do it again. I am outraged that these governments think that they should control this planet like this, and for future generations who will only now of these breeds from pictures as victims of the past if something is not done to protect them. Please let me know what the position is on this now.

I've read about this event in several places, hope you don't mind me posting it here, please support the Greyhounds:
We are able to release some initial details about the March for Greyhounds. We hope that this will give people time to make the necessary travel arrangements should they want to attend the event.
We are pleased to announce that the March for Greyhounds will take place on Saturday 18th November 2006, in Central London.
Participants should meet at Whitehall Place, London SW1, at 12 noon. The march will begin at 12.30pm and will last approximately one hour. It will end in Hyde Park where we will be able to gather for a vigil.
Central London is obviously noisy and crowded. Due to the location and nature of the event we advise that people do not bring their canine companions along with them.
Further information about the march, including press information will be released shortly.

There should be better controls on the breeding of dogs, so many listed everywhere, too many people are just mating their dogs and breeding, they haven't a clue what they are doing and most of them couldn't care, just after a quick sale, these people are the ones who are causing all the problems, so many unwanted dogs in rescues, hundreds of dogs being put down each week as no one wants them, but they keep on breeding to line their own pockets, it's pure greed and stupidity.
ALL BREEDING should be stopped for a set period of time, say two years, then anyone who wants to breed a litter of pups has to register themselves and adhere to strict guidelines eg, proper welfare, health checks, homes vetted etc, which will not be a problem for the people who really care about their chosen breed.
We got newspapers running campaigns to control dogs but the papers keep taking the adverts for litters of puppies, why don't they take a stand and stop running adverts for endless numbers of dogs, so it isn't so easy for these people, someone should take a stand on this issue.

How many people die due to drunk drivers, no one goes on about banning cars do they? Bad owners need to be aimed at, not dogs, they are what we make them, good training from a early age is essential and should be compulsory, it you don't attend training classes that's it-you don't have a dog, end of story.

All this news talk about banning breeds, what is the point, they banned dogs years ago and people still get bitten and attacked, I suppose as usual it will be responsible owners who have to suffer because of a few who don't care and cause problems with their dogs. People should be better educated at schools to learn more about dogs and different breeds etc, we have two Staffords and have never have any problems with them, it is all down to how people raise their dogs.

About two
years ago we adopted a rescue staffie x. he had been very badly treated,
so badly kicked he had to have his back leg ampitated. It is lovely to
see him now, he is so happy and the only time we realise he is a leg
short is when other people ask us what happened, or maybe the occasional
time he gets too adventurous, e.g in the snow, he skidded for miles!!!!!
Many people think this breed of dog is vicious, but he is a very loving
member of our family, especially with my older 17yr old dog and the
cat. chris did take him on a basic 4 week training course as well which
worked wonders in helping him settle. There are so many dogs that need
homes we all need to keep up the good work and support these animals
and the organisations that help them.
