Information, Education & Advice - helping dogs in need

Dizzy the rescue blind Staffie-cross was with Animal Care Cumbria for some time, hoping for a home, but with so many Staffie crosses desperately in need of a home, what chance would a blind one have?
We and other rescues appealed on his behalf and Animal Care Cumbria never gave up on him; in the end the loving Dizzy got his new home. Dizzy is now in training for a cross country walk-he has so far walked eight miles and absolutely loves to be out!
Dizzy’s owners write:
My name is Maribel Baxandall and I am now the proud owner of Dizzy the Staffordshire cross that everyone fell in love with. Myself and my husband Mike live in Keswick in Cumbria where dogs out number people about 5 to 1!
We lost our dog, Bob, who we had had for over 12 years at the beginning of June which was devastating. He was a rescue dog too and became a really important part of the family. We had heard about Dizzy and thought about rescuing him before, but our landlord wouldn't allow us to have more than one dog.
Dizzy has proved to be the ideal dog to help us come to terms with losing Bob. He has a lovely nature, loves eating and sleeping and has fitted in with us a treat. I've included a couple of recent photos of him doing a couple of his favourite things. As I am typing this he is asleep in the middle of our bed which is a position you will find him in often.
Despite being totally blind now he has walked the 5 mile walk around Buttermere and we are taking him around Derwentwater this weekend. Most days he takes his rope toy into the park across the road and tries to kill it!
There is no doubt that he has found a permenant home and we are really pleased to have him.
We love him to bits! We are going to do the Coast to Coast walk this year so we are all in training!
