Information, Education & Advice - helping dogs in need
![]()
Due to an increasing number of enquiries concerning American Bulldogs, we have designated a separate section here for the breed.
The American Bulldog is a relatively new breed here in the UK and has/still is undergoing a rise in popularity, a steep increase in numbers has led to a greater number of dogs in need of new homes and rescue placements; currently regional breed rescues have not been set up - EDDR does not operate a breed rescue for the American Bulldog; we help where and when we can, homes and rescue placements are constantly needed, as is advice for current owners.
If you are interested in adopting an American Bulldog - please contact us.

Update January '08:
Bluebell has found a lovely new home. She is happily living with three other rescue dogs, pictured here with one of her new best friends who now never leaves her side!
Home Needed - December 2007 - Bluebell - American Bulldog bitch
Bluebell - American Bulldog bitch, (currently fostered in the south east)
Bluebell was taken in by EDDR from a scrapyard. She seems to have been passed around through various owners and was in poor condition. Following several weeks TLC, medication and assessment, Bluebell is now ready for a new home of her own.
Bluebell has been veterinary checked, wormed, de-flead, id chipped, vaccinated and spayed by EDDR. She is approximately five years of age, confident around people and thriving on human company. She is looking for a home with someone who has experience, Bluebell enjoys the company of other dogs and has been introduced to both male, female, small and larger dogs, she was very well behaved at the grooming parlour (she thinks baths are fantastic fun) where she became friends with a Greyhound male, she is full on with other dogs wanting to play-which isn't always appreciated by the other dog, but has been learing how to better communicate with the help of her doggie companions. Blubell loves the vet! She also travels very well in the car and does find a car ride a great treat. She is now walking nicely on the lead, used to traffic/built up areas, has her appetite back and has been steadily gaining weight.
Due to her size and enthusiam Bluebell would be suited to a child free home (teenagers or older), living with another dog(s) will depend on successful introductions first.

Update 12/8/07 - This special girl, Elly, is currently under the care of the RSPCA, we have today spoken with the Inspector to see how she is - one ear operation has been carried out and she has recovered well, one ear operation is still needed. The veterinary costs are considerable and the RSPCA will be grateful for any donations received. Update 8/6/07 - a rescue space has now been found and she has moved into boarding kennels. The rescue is able to provide ongoing veterinary treatment for her ears.
American Bulldog female - 1st June
Lost and abandoned dogs are taken to the local authority dog pound and held for 7 days to see if anyone comes forward to claim them. Once the 7 days period is up, if the dog hasn't been claimed by the owner, it is then taken on by a rescue, homed directly from the kennels (in some areas) or put to sleep.
No one has come forward to claim this girl, local rescues can't take her as they are all full, so unless she can find a rescue place very soon, she will be put to sleep.
A rescue placement is needed where she can be fully assessed and taken care of, she was found and taken in by a member of the public, with both ears severely infected and has received veterinary treatment, it is likely that both ears will need operating on, she is approx. 12-18mths of age and 43 kg.
For further details, please contact us to be put in touch with the Dog Warden who is trying to help her.
